Ariel and Quinn McRae are a young couple in love. And like many young couples in love, they wanted to get married sooner rather than later. Even though they didn’t have a lot of money and were struggling to pay the bills, they were eager to be man and wife. So despite his lack of funds, not to mention Ariel telling Quinn she didn’t need an engagement ring, her husband-to-be insisted on getting her one anyway. And that’s when it all went awry.

The couple headed to Pandora and were set to buy a sterling silver and cubic zirconia ring set to mark the occasion. That’s when a sales associate made a snippy remark about the simple rings Quinn was purchasing.

“Y’all, can you believe that some men get these as engagement rings? How pathetic,” the lady sniped, not realizing (or totally knowing and maybe she is just that awful) that was exactly what the couple was doing.

Needless to say, the encounter left Quinn feeling inadequate and crappier than he already felt for not being able to get Ariel the ring set that covered her Pinterest page.

“Old Ariel would have ripped that woman a new one,” she wrote. “Mature Ariel said, ‘It isn’t the ring that matters, it is the love that goes into buying one that is.’ They bought the rings anyway because for Ariel, it wasn’t about the jewelry. All she wanted to do was marry her best friend.

“Y’all, I would have gotten married to this man if it had been a 25-cent gum ball machine ring,” she gushed.

Take 1 or Take 2, I’ll take you anyway I can get you 💞

She then went on to question expensive, flashy symbols of love and how society has made it all about that and not what marriage is really all about. “Why do material possessions equate love??” She went on to say that Quinn was “so afraid of me not wanting him because he couldn’t afford a piece of jewelry. He was afraid that the love I have for him would pale because he couldn’t afford the wedding set I wanted. The world has made it this way and it is so sad.”

They aren’t big and they aren’t expensive, but they are the most precious and the most beautiful things in the world to me 💘

The couple, on the other hand, are anything but. Ariel knew she was going to marry Quinn on the first date and did just that. The two were married last month in a ceremony perfect for them.

“I’ve never been this happy in my life and I couldn’t imagine spending it with anyone else ever,” she wrote. “Here I am, courthouse married, $130 ring set, the love of my life by my side and happier than I could ever imagine.” And that’s all that matters.

I like the way you roll, Tootsie 💘
