Why can’t we have nice things? On what should have been a weekend full of adorable pastel content (see: the Teigen-Legends decorating Easter eggs), some stars weren’t exactly feeling the hopeful Easter spirit and were instead, announcing their divorces. Shockingly, not one, not two, but three couples confirmed over the Easter weekend that they’re calling it quits. There isn’t enough chocolate in the world to make this news go down easy.
Anna and Skylar
The most public couple to announce their end was Pitch Perfect duo Anna Camp and Skylar Astin. The two met on set of the first film in 2011, began dating in 2013 and married in September 2016. They announced the split Friday with a statement to People.
“We can confirm that we have decided to separate, and this decision was made mutually and amicably,” the joint statement reads. “We kindly ask for privacy as we navigate this transition.”
TMZ reportedly obtained divorce papers where Camp cites “irreconcilable differences” as cause for the breakup. The couple last posted about each other on social media in January and their last public appearance together was October 2018 for Mickey Mouse’s 90th Birthday Bash.
Adele and Simon
Adele is pretty private when it comes to her personal life—she didn’t even publicly confirm she was married until a year after it happened—but she confirmed in a statement to CNN this weekend that she has officially split from husband Simon Konecki.
“Adele and her partner have separated,” the statement reads. “They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”
The couple began dating in 2011, welcomed son Angelo in 2012 and married secretly in 2016.
Michelle and Phil
While Michelle Williams is possibly even more tight-lipped about her personal life than Adele, she was uncharacteristically candid last year about how loving her relationship with musician Phil Elverum was. According to a source who spoke to CNN, the couple, who were married in 2018, split at the beginning of 2019.
“Michelle and Phil separated at the beginning of the year. It was an amicable split and they remain friends,” the source said. Neither Williams or Elverum have answered requests for comment.
Last September, Williams opened up to Vanity Fair about her wedding and how she and Elverum came from similar backgrounds of losing a partner and having to parent a young child through heartbreak.
“I never gave up on love,” she said, “Obviously I’ve never once in my life talked about a relationship, but Phil isn’t anyone else. And that’s worth something. Ultimately the way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole. I work to be free inside of the moment. I parent to let Matilda [her daughter] feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free.”
