Whether you're finally getting around to finishing that one project you've been putting off forever, or you're just out to make some improvements because you're bored, it seems a lot of people have home renovations in mind. That goes double for those looking to put their homes on the market, and so contractor Mike Holmes Jr. broke down which key projects to tackle first.Find Mike Jr.'s tips below, and catch Mike's show, Holmes: Next Generation, airing on CTV Life in June.

HOW MUCH MONEY SHOULD I PUT INTO A HOME BEFORE LISTING?

A great place to start is talking to a local real estate agent about what the homes in your area are going for so you know how much money to put into your home before selling it. Curb appeal will give the buyer a good first impression, and first impressions are extremely important so you want to give a good one.

WHAT WORK SHOULD YOU DO BEFORE LISTING A HOME?

Before listing your home, make sure you tackle any hazardous issues that may deter a future homeowner, like electrical problems, leaks, roofing, etc. A fresh light coat of paint goes a long way; it cleans up the space and makes it more inviting. Not everyone has a great imagination when it comes to envisioning themselves in your home, so consider hiring a staging company. Research some current design trends and steer away from doing anything too personal in a home you are about to sell. Every buyer is different and what they are looking for may differ, but if you have a house that is well maintained and won't overwhelm the potential buyer with how much work they need to put into it, that is a good start. For more great advice for Mike Jr., watch the video above!
