If you’ve ever visited a zoo and thought to yourself, “huh, these animals don’t actually seem all that thrilled to be here,” then you’ll likely be able to relate to this passionate three-year-old.

Ollie Augustus and his mom, Kylie, took a trip to the zoo outside of their home in Melbourne, Australia back in October, and when he hopped up on his soapbox and started tearing into the zoo industry, she had the good foresight to roll film. Thankfully for us, because he is just so sweet and vehement! And a great gesticulator as well.

“That’s like jail! They’re not being naughty!” he points out. No, they’re not, Ollie. You’re too right. That man in the video who calls you his “mate” agrees, so do we, and so does the Internet. You’re doing your part for all the sad zoo animals by creating this adorable viral video.

Now, as measured, thoughtful adults, however, we know that most zoos are there for the animals’ benefit. They help protect and repopulate endangered species, provide invaluable research, and educate the public. But all that doesn’t change the fact that we feel sad whenever we see a glorious wild creature, used to having an entire savanna to roam, being confined to a pen the size of a two-car garage.

This zoo video reminds us of the adorable Luiz Antonia who, after learning that animals are killed for human consumption, decided he didn’t want to eat octopus. A must watch, if you haven’t seen it.

Leave it to kids to make complex issues seem so simple—not to mention make us question our own moral compasses .
