This Sunday's episode of
Keeping Up With The Kardashians gave us our first look at Sofia Richie, Scott’s longtime girlfriend post-breakup with Kourtney, and how she interacts with the Kardashian family unit and things got awkward.Co-parenting is a challenge no matter what your situation is but Scott and Kourtney seem to have a good handle on how to do it right. Shocker—it’s almost as if they’re better as friends than they ever were in a relationship. Of course, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with some challenges.In this week’s episode, Kourtney really wanted to visit Finland, and Scott didn’t want to miss spring break with the kids, so he decided to tag along. Kourtney, being the rock star parent that she is,
asked if Sofia wanted to join. It’s not the first trip they’ve taken together as a blended family, but it is the first time Sofia would have to be on camera for
KUWTK so the stakes are infinitely higher with the world watching.Imagine being a
21-year-old model navigating vacationing with your boyfriend’s three kids and his ex while on their long-running reality show? We have nothing but sympathy for Sofia and her obvious and understandable discomfort while Scott has thoroughly been in the Kardashian world of the show for so long and knows the drill.When things became a little strained and Scott turned into his classic negative self—in a hot tub that the trio were enjoying along with the kids no less,—Kourtney became annoyed and we were all reminded of exactly why they’re better apart than together. Kourtney also took the opportunity to let Sofia know her contour wasn't blended properly, which could be seen as an older sister move or just plain shady, depending on your POV.
Being an outsider coming into that situation not only comes with the history Scott and Kourtney have, but the comfort and family connection they both feel with everyone who works on the show in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Sofia doesn’t really know that world so of course it was awkward.But after talking things through on the phone with Kim, Scott realized that, like most things in life, communication is the answer to your problems and he figured it out with Kourtney.Turns out she had offered to talk to Sofia about the filming process before the trip, but Scott didn’t think it would be necessary. Once they smoothed things out the rest of the trip was better, and it became a lesson on just how easy it can be to have a healthier, slightly less dramatic relationship with your ex as you raise your kids together.
