In Hollywood, one of the biggest fashion faux pas is to wear the same thing as another celeb. When it comes to wearing the same thing more than once, it’s the ultimate fashion sin. Thankfully, we have comedian Tiffany Haddish proving that you can not only wear the same dress more than once, you can wear it to the Oscars and still steal the show.
The up-and-coming actor had a breakout in 2017 thanks to her scene-stealing role in Girls Trip, which also starred Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith. For the Girls Trip premiere, Haddish splurged on a $4,000 Alexander McQueen gown in white, with a diamond neck embellishment. Looking stunning on the red carpet, Haddish decided that a dress this beautiful didn’t deserve a life spent alone the closet. So, she did the unthinkable in Hollywood and wore the gown again.
During her gig as host on Saturday Night Live in November 2017, Haddish delivered one of the best monologues of the season while wearing her McQueen gown for a second time. “I feel like I should be able to wear what I want, when I want, no matter how many times I want, as long as I Febreezed it,” Haddish joked during her monologue. “I spent a lot of money on this dress! This dress cost way more than my mortgage. It’s an Alexander McQueen, it’s a $4,000 dress … I’m gonna wear this dress multiple times — you might see this dress in two sketches tonight.”
Haddish kept her word, crashing Weekend Update and taking her McQueen for another spin.
At Sunday’s Academy Awards, it was no secret that Haddish was the most excited person on the red carpet (here’s proof). It was also no secret that she looked amazing in the two outfits she wore during the night. Starting off the red carpet in a traditional Eritrean dress she wore to honour her late father, the comedian later changed outfits to present alongside Maya Rudolph. Guess what dress she wore for a third time. Guessguessguess. Go ahead, we’ll wait.
Reuniting with her McQueen once again, this time with Uggs, Tiffany and Maya joked about their sore feet, ditching their heels and letting their gowns be the focal point. We’re in love with any outfit that lets us wear slippers. At this point, Haddish’s designer dress has been brought down to the reasonable price of $1,333 per wear. That’s just smart fashion.
