As Canada’s national coffee provider, Tim Hortons is always looking for ways to innovate and give Canadians what they really want. And apparently what we really want is chewable coffee. Or at least, that’s what we’re getting.

The company announced three new on-the-go coffee products this week that will be rolling out within the year. One of those products is the Double Double Coffee bar which is apparently very similar to a chocolate bar but completely chocolate-free.

According to the press release, the bar is “made with Tim Hortons coffee beans” and “is similar in size to a chocolate bar, has a smooth and silky texture with an espresso bean finish, but contains no actual chocolate.” They add, “The coffee bar contains caffeine and is great for both coffee and non-coffee drinkers alike.”

So yeah, chewable coffee. People were understandably confused.

So what is the actual substance of the bar if not chocolate? We’re not just chowing down on ground up coffee beans, right? Well, Tims doesn’t seem to have a satisfying answer yet. The company told us in an email, “The Tim Hortons Coffee Bar is still in the early stages of the development process. The final list of ingredients will be provided when the product is rolled out in Fall, 2019.”

So it looks like we’re going to have to sit and stew in our confusion for a little while longer.

A bar isn’t the only new way you’ll be able to consume Tims coffee this year either. The company also announced they’ll be rolling out new instant coffee in Medium, Light Roast and Decaf made from “Tim Hortons own blend of 100% Arabica coffee beans.”

They’ll also be going the way of Starbucks and offering their most popular cold drinks in a ready-to-drink bottle. Yep, that means you’ll soon be able to purchase bottles of Tim Hortons iced coffee and Iced Capps in a variety of flavours, including Original, Vanilla and Mocha.

We’re still not sure how they plan on replicating the unique struggle of impatiently stirring around the last inch of an Iced Capp to melt it just enough to drink it through the straw in bottle-form, but we trust they’ll find a way.
