Once again, Tim Hortons is looking for the next great doughnut, and what better way to do that than have innovative Canadians battle for that chance? In the third annual Duelling Donuts contest, sweet-toothed Canucks are asked to take a family-favourite recipe and transform it into a delectable treat.
Canadians have until July 21 to enter, simply by going to DuellingDonuts.ca to create their doughnuts. Only eight will be selected from the probable tens of thousands of entries, and a celebrity panel of judges — including singer Jann Arden, DJ deadmau5 and actress Sophie Tweed-Simmons — will narrow it down to four. From there, the public will decide which two pastries should duke it out, with the most popular doughnut taking home the sweet, sweet grand prize: $10,000 and their doughnut available for purchase at Timmies locations across Canada next year.
Last year, Jennifer Brown of Glencoe, Ont., beat out almost 77,000 submissions with her Love Reese to Pieces doughnut, which will be available at Tim Hortons for a limited time starting July 15. If you can handle it, her winning doughnut is covered in chocolate fondant, topped with mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and chopped peanuts and filled with custard. Delish.
It’ll be fascinating to see what concoctions Canadian families come up with this year.
