Tina Knowles (now Lawson) knows that every mom’s job is to annoy her kids a little—even when that kid happens to be Beyoncé. Queen Bey’s mother posted a short video to Instagram earlier today that’s since been removed, and clearly, the seasoned mom knew exactly what she was doing. While carefully combing out Beyoncé’s long tresses, Tina is heard cooing, “au naturel” over and over, slowly drawing each out syllable and giggling as her daughter’s annoyance builds.
“I was trimming my baby’s hair today and I am mocking Neal! Getting on her nerves! Being really annoying,” Tina shared in the caption, referring to hairstylist Neal Farinah. Beyoncé definitely agreed as she could be heard saying, “Mama, that’s really annoying. I mean, VERY annoying. MAMA.” You can basically hear the eye roll and we love it.
Tina may have been trolling her superstar daughter like a pro but the clip still made for a sweet mother-daughter moment. How awesome is it to have your mom play with your hair and give you a trim, even as an adult? It doesn’t matter if Beyoncé has access to the best hair and beauty teams in the world, she still goes to her mama. Beyoncé may be unimpressed by Tina’s antics but we definitely heard a faint giggle from the superstar and truly, this is evidence of their incredible bond.
Earlier in the week, she praised her “beautiful baby”, that would be Beyoncé’s younger sis Solange, for composing and performing the score for the Kenzo fashion show in Paris. Tina is one proud mother and she doesn’t care who knows it—or if it annoys her girls.
Of course, Knowles isn’t exactly new to the hair game. Before being known as Beyoncé’s mom, the Texan-born businesswoman was a makeup artist and beautician who owned her own salon. Tina eventually moved into fashion and costume design, gracing us all with the many coordinated outfits that Destiny’s Child wore during the height of their popularity. (If you’ve ever watched an old music video and thought damn, Beyoncé, that is A LOOK, thank Tina Knowles.)
Ahhh, moms. Even when you’re Queen Bey, you’re still their baby girl.
