The hottest accessory for 2020 is a literal lifesaver. Face coverings and nonmedical masks have been recommended by just about every major health organization as one of the most important ways people can help stop the spread of COVID-19 (don’t forget to wash your hands, too!). Even with medical professionals and the smartest scientists in the world telling people to wear a mask and physical distance, many are still refusing to cover their mouth and nose when out in public. For those people, Tom Hanks and Jennifer Aniston are extremely disappointed in you.As numbers reach an all-time high in the U.S., America’s favorite actor Tom Hanks has a message for anyone who is still refusing to follow the CDC guidelines and wear a mask – shame on you. While promoting his latest film Greyhound, Hanks commented on the terrifying rise of coronavirus cases in the U.S. and around the world. "There’s really only three things we can do in order to get to tomorrow: Wear a mask, social distance, wash our hands,” said Hanks. "Those things are so simple, so easy, if anybody cannot find it in themselves to practice those three very basic things – I just think shame on you."[video_embed id='1987642']RELATED: The need to normalize wearing of masks in public [/video_embed]Hanks and wife Rita Wilson were the first celebrities to test positive for COVID-19 back in March, which was only three months ago but feels like three years. Hanks shared the couples’ experience with Coronavirus on social media, including his commitment to help find a vaccine for the deadly disease by donating his plasma. During his interview this week, Hanks said that he and Wilson have recovered and are continuing to do their part to stop the spread of Covid 19."Oh, as the canaries in the coal mine for the COVID-19 experience, we are fine. We had about 10 days of very uncomfortable symptoms. Not life-threatening, we’re happy to say. We were isolated in order to keep an eye on ourselves because if our temperatures had spiked, if our lungs had filled, if any number of things had gone wrong with this, we would have needed expert medical care,” said Hanks. “We didn’t. I guess we were model recoverers from COVID-19, but we were also isolated so that we would not give it to anybody else that we came in contact with, and since then have been doing the same isolating, social distancing that is being asked of the world so, we are fine."Friends star Jennifer Aniston is also using her platform to encourage people to wear a mask. The Morning Show actor posted a selfie this week on her new Instagram page, showing off her black mask. “I understand masks are inconvenient and uncomfortable. But don’t you feel that it’s worse that businesses are shutting down... jobs are being lost... health care workers are hitting absolute exhaustion. And so many lives have been taken by this virus because we aren’t doing enough,” wrote Aniston.Continuing, the actor said that although she believes in the basic goodness of people, she’s been frustrated seeing so many going out in public without masks. “People seem worried about their “rights being taken away” by being asked to wear a mask. This simple and effective recommendation is being politicized at the expense of peoples’ lives. And it really shouldn’t be a debate,” says Aniston, adding “If you care about human life, please... just #wearadamnmask and encourage those around you to do the same.”

I understand masks are inconvenient and uncomfortable. But don’t you feel that it’s worse that businesses are shutting down... jobs are being lost... health care workers are hitting absolute exhaustion. And so many lives have been taken by this virus because we aren’t doing enough. ⠀ ⠀ I really do believe in the basic goodness of people so I know we can all do this ? BUT still, there are many people in our country refusing to take the necessary steps to flatten the curve, and keep each other safe. People seem worried about their “rights being taken away” by being asked to wear a mask. This simple and effective recommendation is being politicized at the expense of peoples’ lives. And it really shouldn’t be a debate ?? ⠀ ⠀ If you care about human life, please... just #wearadamnmask ? and encourage those around you to do the same ❤️
