A number of Canadian celebrities have sounded off on who should win the 2015 federal election, but now an American celeb has thrown her hat into the ring. And you might say she’s got an #orangecrush.

Comedian Sarah Silverman sent out an unexpected tweet of support to NDP leader Tom Mulcair and Vancouver NDP MP candidate Mira Oreck, saying:

Silverman’s chiming in on the controversial niqab debate in which the Conservatives and Bloc Québécois want to see the Islamic face covering banned during citizenship ceremonies. The NDP and Liberals oppose such a ban, stating that it infringes on women’s rights, minority rights and goes against The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. For his part, Mulclair sent a thank you tweet to Silverman:

Now, as for Silverman’s even more strange endorsement of Mira Oreck–since she’s just an MP running in the new riding of Vancouver-Granville–the CBC says the two women met in 2012 when Oreck was producing a “Vote for Obama” video starring Silverman and they’ve kept in touch since then.

The whole thing is pretty random, but it looks like both Mulcair and Oreck are quite happy with the shout-out.
