Topshop, the British retailer that many fashionistas swear by, is receiving heat on social media for a so-called “vegan” t-shirt. The baby pink shirt features the image of a dinosaur followed by the word “vegan.” At face value, everything about the t-shirt seems all well and good. What’s been getting under people’s skin is what’s printed on the tag inside.
So everyone is wanting to share my photo over on @facebook, so let’s share it here too! @Topshop and #teeandcake Not too sure a #vegan #design works with this #brand! 😂 #veganism #youonlyhadonejob #vegans #topshop #fashion #clothing pic.twitter.com/UWCaGdZyXm

Though Topshop mostly carries its own label, it also stocks other brands too. The brand responsible for the controversy? Tee & Cake, a clothing line known for sharing its cake recipes on their labels. While the reoccurring tactic is a cute one, in this case, it was more of a miss than a hit.

A vegan lifestyle is all about staying away from animal-based products and abstaining from items that promote the use of animal products. The tag on the inside of Tee & Cake’s t-shirt however, encourages its wearers to use eggs and butter — and we’re pretty sure eggs come from animals.
“The t-shirt is a brand that we stock at Topshop called Tee & Cake. The label is across all of the t-shirts in the line,” said a spokeswoman for Topshop, “As the brand is called Tee and Cake it has a whimsical recipe in the label. The label is nothing to do with what’s on the front of the t-shirt.”
Yesterday, Tee & Cake also released an official statement on their Instagram, offering up a vegan-friendly cake recipe too.
No real harm done here folks, but it’s safe to say that the brand will take extra precaution when labeling their products from here on out!
