How many hair appliances do you have lying around your bathroom collecting dust and never touching your hair? Flat irons, curling irons, hair dryers, that crimper you bought in 2003 when that came back for about five seconds. Can you honestly say you use every single one of them? Neither do we, but they still work, so why throw them out? Well, you could keep them around until you have that yard sale–but let’s face it, you’re not having a yard sale–or you could donate them to women who would benefit from the appliances you’re not even using.

And here’s the perfect opportunity: Trade Secrets is running their 10th annual ‘Give & Take’ Appliance Trade-In event until September 23rd and it’s super easy to get involved (there’s also a little something in it for you too). You can get rid of those old hair tools and help women dealing with abuse, mental illness, poverty or other set backs. Any appliance you bring in will be donated to local women’s charities and shelters where these women will benefit from them.

The program is about encouraging women to help other women and is based on the principle that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a huge impact on a person’s day or life. While a hair appliance might not seem like much, it can mean a whole lot to a woman who has very little. Being able to style her hair might be the little confidence boost she needs to get through the day.

Plus, if you bring your appliances into a Trade Secrets location, you’ll receive 50 per cent off select salon-quality hot tool purchases at the store. So you can keep looking spectacular too.

So what are you waiting for? Only good things can come from donating your old hair appliances: more space in your cupboard, 50 per cent off a new purchase and the satisfaction of helping out another woman or family. A little act of kindness can go a long way.
