Have you noticed how the overhead bins on airplanes always seem to fill up these days? Nobody wants to check baggage if they don’t have to — too expensive. Plus, you have to wait to get it after you’ve landed, assuming it arrives at all. So we carry it all, our entire week’s vacation worth of clothing, products and footwear, stuffed into a backpack that we then try to jam into an already full storage area above the aisle seats.
A new Kickstarter product called the “Airport Jacket” is trying to give us another option: Wearing the luggage, rather than carrying it. The jacket can hold up to 33 lbs of clothing in its 14 pockets, two detachable pocket panels and built-in carry bag.
The video on Kickstarter shows a woman packing a whole slew of things into the suitcase replacement, including a laptop, sandals, a bunch of clothes and a curling iron. The most amazing part is that she doesn’t even look that ridiculous when she puts it on. In fact, the coat is pretty stylish… if a bit bulky when packed. It also currently breaks down into three different styles, described as “sleek,” “hooded” and “New York.”
According to the brand’s website, the jacket aims to help travellers cut down on baggage fees, avoid long lines to check your things and eliminate the chance of lost luggage.
The thing is, the coat actually has a nice silhouette, and doesn’t look like some gimmicky garb that we’d be too embarrassed to ever wear in public. The Twitterverse agrees.

The Kickstarter campaign has raised $17,000 of its $100,000 goal, and has a month left to raise the money. If it doesn’t get funded, we’re totally sewing pockets into our favourite trench and copying this idea.
