If you’re looking to buy a dress for the inauguration, you might just be out of luck, claims Donald Trump. “All the dress shops are sold out in Washington. It’s hard to find a great dress for this inauguration,” the future President told Times. According to Trump, boutiques and department stores are tapped out of gowns for this hot ticket event.
Unfortunately, not all retailers agree. Martha Slagle, vice president and general manager of Neiman Marcus in Friendship Heights (a neighborhood in Washington) told The Washington Post: “You have more than a thousand evening gowns to choose from. I’m stuffed with beautiful gowns.”
Anne Keating, Bloomingdale’s senior vice president also said in a statement that their two locations in the D.C. area have “a wonderful assortment of dresses and gowns.”
In fact, Salon visited several D.C. stores and found hundreds of available gowns at upscale shops like Carolina Herrera, Kate Spade, Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue. Sales associates at Kate Spade even informed the magazine that they have not yet seen an increase in purchases, despite the upcoming inauguration.
Over at Betsy Fisher, a D.C. womenswear shop, store manager Anastasia Thomas told PEOPLE, “We have not gotten a huge influx of traffic specifically related to shopping for inaugural dresses.”
So there you have it. No need to worry about not having any options at what the President-elect anticipates to be a record-setting event. “We are going to have an unbelievable, perhaps record-setting turnout for the inauguration, and there will be plenty of movie and entertainment stars,” Trump stated.
See you there, Scott Baio?
