Following the arrest of 17 suspects yesterday in connection with the October 2016 robbery of Kim Kardashian West in Paris, it looks like the gang may have included someone inside of the reality star’s team.
After months of testing the DNA left in the hotel room and tapping the phones of people police suspected to be involved, French authorities carried out a raid on Monday morning that resulted in 17 suspects, including 14 men and three women, being brought into custody. One of the suspects arrested during yesterday’s raid was the 27 year-old limo driver who dropped Kardashian West off at her hotel the night of the robbery.
According to the French newspaper Le Monde, the driver works for an upscale limo service the Kardashians use when traveling in Paris. The driver would have known the exact time Kardashian West arrived at her room, possibly helping to pull off the robbery that resulted in Kardashian West being bound and gagged at gunpoint in her hotel room while a gang of thieves made off with $10.5 million US in jewelry.
The robbery rocked the news world and drew a number of speculations from the peanut gallery (that would be us). Kardashian West was staying at the ‘No Address Hotel’ in Paris at the time of a robbery, an elite hotel where she and husband Kanye West have previously stayed, as have fellow A-listers Prince and Leonardo DiCaprio. Many blamed Kardashian West for the attack, saying that her constant posting on social media would have alerted the attackers to her location and revealed what jewels she currently had in her possession.
Kardashian West’s bodyguard Pascal Duvier was also blamed, though he had been dismissed for the evening by Kardashian West and instructed to instead guard her sisters at a dance club.
A former bodyguard for the West’s spoke out following the robbery, saying that the couple did not take their security seriously and were understaffed and not properly protected while out in public. He also speculated that the robbery was either staged by the family or an inside job, a theory that may be partially true in light of today’s news of the limo driver’s connection.
The reality star was left physically unharmed but understandably traumatized by the event, something she addresses in the first trailer for the upcoming season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, which returns March 2017 on E!
