Since all professional sports leagues have shut down amid the COVID-19 global pandemic, and even the Olympics have been postponed until next year, many diehard competitive sports fans have been feeling the void. Luckily, before coronavirus shut down all television productions, the new show Ultimate Tag (Wednesdays at 9/10MT on CTV) was able to complete a season. Hosted by the three football all-stars, brothers J.J. Watt, T.J. Watt and Derek Watt, competitors try to run an obstacle course without having their red tags ripped off them by predators with names like Big Deal, The Kid and The Iron Giantess. If you’re thinking, “Is this like American Gladiator?” you’re kind of right, but it’s also super addictive and kids and parents are all-in on this new show.If you need an example of the kind of athleticism mixed with wild showmanship this show's got in spades, look no further than predator La Flair, who, as he was chasing down a competitor, literally did a spinning flip in the air like it was no big deal before ripping the guy’s red tag off. Is this like everyday stuff for La Flair? Is this how he takes the dog for a walk? We wouldn’t be surprised if it was!
On Wednesday night, a competitor named Na’eem tried to evade predator Big Deal by climbing under the maze and hanging by his hands to avoid being tagged. Of course, the man underestimated someone named Big Deal because tagging him looked almost like kid’s play.[video_embed id='1914821']RELATED: 'Transplant' star Ayisha Issa has superhero ambitions and the moves to back it up [/video_embed]Twitter went a bit haywire during the show's premiere, with viewers shocked at how invested they were in the chases. Like these kids who were glued to their seats during the competition and then spent the commercial breaks trying to parkour up the stairwell. Or these ones planning their own Ultimate Tag backyard obstacle course or the ones constructing it right in the living room. For some, the show was less about recreational fun and more about finding a new calling—this young girl now has big dreams of becoming an Ultimate Tag warrior herself. Dream big, sister! While we wait for the next episode, don’t worry if you see the neighbour’s kids bouncing off the backyard fence into a backflip. They’re just future Ultimate Tag champions.Watch Ultimate Tag Wednesdays at 9/10MT on CTV.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: This dog shows mind-blowing restraint by holding a sandwich in its mouth [/video_embed]
