There are still a few weeks to go until the dramatic
America’s Got Talent: The Champions finale, but the behind-the-scenes drama continues to dominate the headlines—especially now that former
AGT host Tyra Banks has added her voice to the mix.Banks spoke her own truth in an interview with
Yahoo on January 27, revealing she’s proud of the way fired judge Gabrielle Union spoke out about what she says was a "toxic workplace" during her one and only season on the OG version of the show.“What I love about what she did is she was very vulnerable. I wasn’t super close to it, but I saw some of her tweets,” Banks said. “I thought it was maybe beautiful… how she wasn’t speaking in anger, she’s speaking in pain like, ‘I’m trying to get through this… and I’m crying.’”What Banks didn’t do is open up about her own experiences
on the series as another woman of colour, which—following
Terry Crews’ recent claims that the workplace was very diverse—people who've been following the controversy were perhaps hoping she would. Instead, she said she didn’t spend enough time with the series to really make a judgment call. Banks hosted
AGT for two seasons in 2018-19 after host Nick Cannon departed (Regis Philbin and then Jerry Springer hosted before him).[video_embed id='1752866']Tyra Banks is living in a dorm at Harvard[/video_embed]“I almost kind of like dipped my toe in and left, so I’m not really immersed in the culture,” Banks said. “Like people ask me about Victoria’s Secret, I can wax poetic about that — I was there for 10 years.”Meanwhile, Crews is also speaking out again after Union took him to task on Twitter for his defence of the show. The current host threw up some cryptic tweets to defend himself following backlash for saying the series is one of the most diverse he’s ever worked on and that the claims that sparked an external investigation were anonymous.
The comments aren’t sitting well with Union's supporters to say the least. Many are accusing Crews of not standing up for the same women—including Union—who defended him when he
shared his story of sexual abuse in 2016. Especially since Crews publicly stated how he would never forget their support. As for the actual investigation into claims of a toxic work environment, they’re still underway. Earlier this month NBC boss Paul Telegdy was confident there would be some sort of a conclusion by the end of the month, which means we should all hopefully have some answers any day now.[video_embed id='1882661']Dwayne Johnson responded to Ben Mulroney's tweet in the best way[/video_embed]
