What’s an audience to do with all these females running around? With the Ghostbusters release just around the corner (July 15th to be exact) we have been gifted with an onslaught of new trailers. And may we say, we are thrilled that they are all very meta in their handling of the gender backlash.
From comments on typical female representation–Chris Hemsworth’s character comically reproduces the Ghostbusters logo with boobs to the horror of the women–to lines of dialogue that seem to be very pointed–‘I don’t know if it was a race thing or a lady thing but I’m mad as hell’–the Ghostbusters are fully aware of what they’re doing.
Also, how great is it to see in this trailer that all the women were chosen for the team based on their brains while Chris Hemsworth’s Kevin was recruited for his looks? We’re fully on board.
The latest news on the upcoming film is that one of the classic ghosts of the franchise, Slimer, will be getting a friend. And she’s female. What? Another woman? That’s right. The recently released clip has since been removed, but The Independent snatched a screenshot of the ghost to share with the world.
Sorry, guys, but it looks like these ladies aren’t going to be backing down anytime soon. Also, here’s a little fun fact you might not have known: Slimer in Ghostbusters 2 was played by a woman. So it looks like there were female ghosts even before there were female ghostbusters.
In Ghostbusters 2, Slimer was played by a woman.
