You know what belongs under the sea? The atrocious outfits singer Natasha Bedingfield and The Walking Dead star Sonequa Martin-Green wore this week on the red carpet. The Little Mermaid was a hit in the 90s, and yes it’s a classic, but the only time celebs (or anyone, for that matter) should look to Ariel for inspiration, should be on Halloween.
Aside from the mermaid theme, celebrities also channelled their inner referee (Kendall Jenner, we’re looking at you), while most of the cast of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, including Taryn Manning and Jane Krakowski were found to be sartorially offside as well.
Um, why is the Little Mermaid look a thing now?
Kendall JennerThis look is swirly and twirly and checkered and striped all at the same time. Kendall Jenner is approaching a sexy referee Halloween costume in this crop top, and high-waisted pant with a thick matching belt combo. Cute black mules, though. Getty Images
Kristen BellThis icy blue dress looks like it’s being held up by sheer will. We’re kind of worried that Kristen may accidently expose herself at any moment. The sweetheart neckline, and embellished fabric is super feminine—the colour really suites her—but it’s these ultra deep-V necklines that have got to go. Getty Images
Melissa McCarthyIs Melissa McCarthy getting married this week? Based on her all white ensemble on the red carpet, it sure looks like it. The floor-length pleated skirt, with its iridescent sheen looks straight out of this month’s Brides magazine. We’re loving Melissa’s loose waves and the pop of coral on her lips though. If only her stylist were as talented as her hair and makeup artist.Getty Images
Rosario DawsonRosario Dawson looks so smart here…from the ankle up. The pattern on the dress is cool, as is the cut, and it fits her great, but below that things get bad. Classic case of the wrong shoe for the outfit. The only thing they match are her nails. Getty Images
Sonequa Martin-GreenAs a unit, this look is very 70s. But more in an Austin Powers kind of way. Individually, the top is fine, but those pants? They look SO comfy! Like something you’d wear to cuddle up on the couch and watch Sonequa Martin-Green in The Walking Dead, where she is usually dressed better than this. Getty Images
Natasha BedingfieldIn this see-through, sequin gown with following train, Natasha Bedingfield looks like a manufactured pop star created by a think tank full of 12-year-old girls. Like Barbie mixed with the Little Mermaid mixed with Courtney Love. Creative, but at the end of the day, this look just needs to grow up a little. Getty Images
Amber RoseSweet, reliable Amber Rose, she’s always out to entertain with her wild outfits. What have you donned for us this week, Ms. Rose? A hoodie? How delightfully ordinary! And ripped jeans and high tops and a ball cap? Yes, yes, very nice. But seriously, where are your sunglasses?Getty Images
Riley KeoughCould a smile have saved Riley Keogh’s off-the-shoulder dress from looking like a vampire’s church wear? Maybe, but we’ll never know. Getty Images
Taryn ManningYellow is one of those colours that can go oh-so wrong. Here, Taryn Manning offers proof. This tea-length dress is in desperate need of accessories to bring the lackluster hue to life, and the sleeves, which are too long, don’t help. Getty Images
Courteney CoxThis one could really use a friend…you know, to help her dress better. Nothing about Courteney Cox’s basic outfit calls out to us, not the staple strappy silver sandals or the long-sleeve black dress (*yawn)… And that’s why we had to have it on this list. It’s almost like she’s trying too hard to look like she’s not trying. Getty Images
Zoe BellThe pattern on Zoe Bell’s jumpsuit would make great camouflage if she were hiding in a fictitious land like Avatar’s Pandora. The garment’s oversized, floral print is overwhelming, and the cut of the top makes her shoulders look much wider than they actually are. The belted waist and wide-leg pants are equally as unflattering. Getty Images
Jane FondaJane Fonda looks happy, healthy, and absolutely ready to party hard until at least 8:15 p.m. in this boisterous, wide-lapelled jacket with its shimmering display of fireworks. That’s all the excitement we can handle for one evening, Jane. Getty Images
Sarah PaulsonSarah Paulson was channeling her inner witch this week in a heavy black ankle-length skirt, and black pointed heels. Punctuated with a peasant-sleeved top in a colour and pattern that is reminiscent of baby spit-up.The actress’ red carpet look totally missed the mark. Maybe a traditional witch hat would have saved this sad ensemble.Getty Images
Jane KrakowskiUsually we’re laughing at Jane Krakowski for her hilarious on-screen performances. But, regrettably, this week we’re giggling at her unfortunate fashion mishap. The blush pink sleeveless top could have been pretty, but it was ruined by a giant red triangle. And the abstract water colour paint strokes on the actress’ skirt are trying so hard match the top, but in reality, don’t.Getty Images
Carol KaneWe assume that Carol Kane is wearing something under this coat, but we’ll never really know. All we can see beyond this fur-and-velvet ensemble are the chunky combat boots, and those only raise more questions. Getty Images
Zosia MametZosia Mamet is wearing an outfit seemingly borrowed from an 80's music video. The see-through blouse with billowing sleeves reminds us of the cut-up sweaters of the bygone decade, and the black leather mini-skirt with black ankle booties do little to compliment her legs. Getty Images
Linda CardelliniYes, Linda Cardellini looks about three decades younger than her actual age. BUT, that doesn’t give her carte blanche to dress like a teenager. Sure, classy teen, but teen nonetheless. Her white, floral-embellished-sleeve shirt with lace-up front, and black pleated skirt look ready for her Sweet Sixteen.Getty Images
