The Rock is pretty much the coolest guy in town, and by “town” we mean the world. The global village. The planet. Whenever we’re feeling a little down about the state of humanity, we just take a trip down his Instagram feed to remind ourselves that as long as people like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson exist, there’s still a little hope. If he’s not inspiring us to hit the gym every once and while, treat ourselves to pancakes and be our best selves, he’s inviting superhero kids to visit him on set and giving cars to U.S. combat veterans. No wonder University of Alberta track star Ashley Whiteman wants to meet him.
Whiteman was featured in a recent U Sports interview where she answered questions about her athletic accomplishments at U of A — which are many. Whiteman was named Rookie of the Year in 2016, Canada West’s Track Athlete of the Year in 2017 and First Team All-Canadian three times (and she’s only in her third year at uni!). In addition to going over her extensive list of accomplishments, Whiteman was also asked what athlete she would most like to have dinner with. Obviously, she chose The Rock.
“Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson! Less for the specific sports he was involved in and more for the person he is and where he came from,” she said, “He’s hardworking, funny and gives back where it’s due. I love his attitude and how he goes about life so I think dinner with him would be nothing but fun.”
We agree 100 per cent but like most of us who have expressed a desire to spend time with The Rock, Whiteman thought nothing of her answer. That is, until U Sports tweeted it at The Rock AND HE REPLIED. It looks like if Ashley plays her cards right and laughs at all Johnson’s cheesy jokes (the best kind, in our opinion), she might just have a date.
What an incredibly accomplished woman! Congrats Ashley! 👏🏾🙌🏾
Look forward to our dinner one day. I’ll pay of course, but you must laugh at my extremely cheesy jokes. Keep doin’ it strong and congrats again! https://t.co/ruiLRHGNce

Considering that the last time The Rock randomly picked up a story about a non-celebrity in Canada he ended up flying the kid and his entire family to the set of his movie to meet him, we wouldn’t rule out the possibility that Whiteman will actually get to sit down to dinner with him. She seems pretty pumped about it, anyway.
This is awesome, you’re awesome. Thank you for being a positive influence on so many! Cheesy jokes are my favourite to laugh at.

The University of Alberta Twitter page had a great suggestion for what that dinner could consist of. The Rock’s favourite: “a massive amount of pancakes.”
Might we suggest a massive amount of pancakes on the UAlberta campus, complete with Canadian maple syrup?
