While many (okay, most) of us have struggled with body image and self esteem issues at one point or another, it’s incredibly rare to see those issues reflected with sensitivity and honesty on the small screen – or, for that matter, in the real lives of the celebrities we follow. It’s no surprise, then, that This Is UsChrissy Metz is such a fan favourite.

While we’ve been loving Metz’s nuanced, courageous portrayal of Kate Pearson on the NBC drama, this week we fell a little more in love with the breakout star as she opened up to People magazine about her real-life struggles with body image, weight and past feelings of failure as an aspiring Hollywood actor, as well as how she moved past it all to a place of confidence and genuine comfort in her own skin. The best part, though? Metz’s insight into what makes her character relatable to so many women.

“It’s not about our size,” Metz told People. “It’s how we look at ourselves and how we feel about ourselves.”

Um, YES. Can we get an amen? Ms. Metz, thanks for your willingness to be vulnerable, your honesty and your formidable acting skills – but most of all, thank you for the powerful reminder that regardless of our size, learning to be happy with the bodies we’ve got truly comes from within.
