Singer. Style icon. Designer. Wife. Mother. Really freaking funny. These are all ways to label Victoria Beckham, because guys, she’s really funny. Like, legitimately, dry-British-humour, funny. In a new video with Vogue, Beckham uses her trademark deadpan delivery and famous affinity for not smiling to turn the fashion world on its head. Before she was Victoria Beckham the designer, she was Victoria Beckham the Spice Girl. If you wanna wear my latest collection, you gotta get with my friends.
In the very cheeky new video, Vogue editors Venetia Scott, Edward Enninful and Rosie Vogel-Eades tell the camera they’re excited to feature Beckham’s evolution of style over the past ten years, with the new shoot highlighting her clean and simple approach to her fashion line. Beckham has other plans, which include revisiting her most iconic looks from her days as Posh Spice.
Promising to ‘keep things understated,’ Beckham does the complete opposite, trading her usual minimalist style for looks from her Spice World days, including bright colours, metallic dresses, and this amazing make over. Emphasis on the over.
A treat for any Spice Girls fans, Beckham incorporates the group’s most famous lyrics into her conversations with Vogue editors. She’s giving them everything, all that joy can bring. Yes, she swears. As for her new vision, it’s where two become…wait for it…
Almost as good as Victoria’s straight-faced delivery is the confused reaction of the Vogue editors.
The fashion industry is known for often taking itself too seriously, so seeing one of the biggest designers in the world have fun at her own expense with the biggest fashion magazine in the world is pretty great. We just never thought that designer would be Victoria Beckham. She just became our new celebrity friend crush, and not just because we want to hang out with her in order to catch a glimpse of her husband. Although that would be nice as well.
The new video is to promote Beckham’s October cover of Vogue, which features the designer posing with her photogenic offspring, including sons Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and her daughter Harper.
In the final scene, Beckham jokes about her microphone not working, proving that while she may not have the best singing voice of all the Spice Girls, she definitely has the best sense of humour.
