At last year’s MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift was the belle of the ball, leading the pack of nominees with 10 nods for “Bad Blood,” and eventually winning six. Between then and now, Swifty released three more videos from 1989: “Wildest Dreams,” “Out of the Woods,” and “New Romantics.” So we expected to see some more Swift VMA action this year. Er, not so much. Because this is the year of #Lemonade.

That’s right, people, Swift got no love from the VMAs and got ZERO nominations. Not even Best Female Video. And it probably hurts even more knowing that Kanye got two nods — including one for Video of the Year, for his icky “Famous” — and Calvin Harris even got some attention, for his song with Rihanna, “This is What You Came For.” You know, the one Taylor co-wrote.

Ouch.

But let’s pay attention to the real star of the 2016 VMAs: Beyoncé. The beehive was buzzing thanks to the 11 nominations she just scored, edging out Adele who earned an impressive eight. Both ladies are nominated in the same categories and if Adele beats out Bey for any of them, we would love to see Kanye dare go up and interrupt her speech. Not bloody likely.
