Like Madonna and Lindsay Lohan before her, it appears as though Meghan Markle may have developed a British accent of her own. Last Friday, the internet had a field day when footage of Meghan greeting fans emerged after her first official engagement with Queen Elizabeth II as The Duchess of Sussex. Yes, she was polite and lovely as per usual, but what was out of the ordinary was the new tone in her voice. Is that a slight English accent we detect?

In particular, it’s the phrase “We all had a great day, I think,” which Meghan says to a Royal fan thrilled to meet her. It was the way she said ‘all’ that perked up ours ears…can you spot it in the video above?

The internet was divided with Meghan’s newfound cadence, with some thinking it was only natural that the Duchess would pick up a British twang.

Others were a bit more skeptical.

According to linguistics expert Dennis Preston, Meghan doesn’t even have one. “I did a very careful listen, paying specific attention to her vowels, a big giveaway with British accents, as well as the intonation. I just didn’t find anything resembling a British accent,” he said to Yahoo Lifestyle. “There’s nothing there.”

Thoughts?
