The winter travel season has officially begun and while it can be a blast, it can also be expensive. Tech expert Avery Swartz wants to help with that.

Here are five of her favourite apps and web tools to help save you money on that next trip.

Hopper
This Canadian company is a flight booking tool that predicts the best price and best time to book—with 95 percent accuracy—up to one year in advance.

Booking.com
Save money by considering accommodation other than hotels. This app has all the traditional accommodation options (i.e. hotels), plus non-traditional options like apartments, houses, villas, cabins, etc… than an other app. You can compare prices all in one place instead of flipping from app to app. The website is also listed on ebates.ca, so you can save even more by earning cash back.

Rome2Rio
This is the best way to compare transportation options between places on your trip. Compare plane, train, bus, ferry and car to see what’s the best for you. Once you’ve found your preferred way to travel, book right in the app.

Headout
This app offers discounts and last-minute deals on attractions, tickets, tours and experiences in 15 cities. The deals increase the closer you get to the date, so it pays to be last-minute!

Service
If your flight is cancelled or delayed, Service will automatically contact the airline for you to film claims for compensation. Sign up for an annual plan ($49) or use the free plan (Service will take 30 percent of whatever compensation they get for you).
