Star of stage, screen, and the kitchen (apparently), Jake Gyllenhaal recently wowed us all with his a cappella singing skills during the Take Me To The World: A Sondheim 90th Birthday Celebration, where he sang "Move On" from  Sunday in the Park with George. He wasn't singing too loudly Tuesday night, however, since his first attempt at making sourdough bread was "resting." That's right, folks—Jake Gyllenhaal has been recruited into the quarantine sourdough army. Thoughts and prayers.Appearing via video-chat with Stephen Colbert, Jake promptly shushed the host like it was a theatre. “I have sourdough rising! Shh! It’s resting!”Yeah, Stephen, it's resting.“As my hair has grown longer and as I have sort of slowly inched into the hipster world, I’ve found myself falling in love with sourdough,” Jake explained, tucking his flowy locks behind his ears (hey, better than a mullet courtesy of Gwen Stefani). Holding up the ends of his long mane, he exclaimed to Stephen, “I’m going to have to get it a leash pretty soon!”
Jake then proceeded to explain for several minutes the process of how to make sourdough from a sourdough starter, as he was taught by his friend, Josey "The Bread" Baker. If you're also at the "Baking Bread" stage of quarantine, it's really a fabulous crash course in the subject. He even shared a photo of the finished product on his Instagram story later. Beautiful.[caption id="attachment_4914506" align="alignleft" width="960"]Jake Gyllenhaal quarantine bread @jakegyllenhaal/Instagram[/caption]Jake's been keeping busy doing all the quarantine things: hair, bread AND social media challenges. As if to avoid becoming the prince of inertia, the Prince of Persia star accepted a stay-at-home challenge from his best buddy/husband, Spider-Man star Tom Holland (“who you’re having a romance with, I understand,” Stephen added, to which Jake confirmed, “Yes, a full romance.” Aww. You guys.). The challenge, as you may have seen, was to put on a t-shirt while in a handstand and after Ryan Reynolds declined to participate Jake knew he couldn’t bow out.[video_embed id='1935989']RELATED: Jake Gyllenhaal reveals what he loved about Health Ledger in new interview[/video_embed]So of course he did it, greasy long hair and all (like, how??! We need answers!) but revealed to Stephen that he then tried to extend the challenge to 50 Cent, Hugh Jackman, and his sister, actress Maggie Gyllenhaal. The first two flat out ignored him, but when it came to his big sister...“My sister did it better than probably any of the ones who had done it before,” he marvelled. “I don’t know how you feel, but I’m a younger sibling. So I’m used to doing something, and then my older sibling doing it 10 times as well.”We hope the next time brother and sister are in a room together, they don’t get into too many acrobatics together because THE SOURDOUGH IS RESTING.
