Just ask CP24’s Nathan Downer. During an interview with the former heavyweight champ, who was in Toronto to promote his one-man show, Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth, Downer found himself on the receiving end of an epic, profanity-laced tirade the likes of which daytime television may have never before seen.
You see, Tyson made a new friend during his visit: Mayor Rob Ford. The two had what must have been quite the heart-to-heart at City Hall on Tuesday, because Tyson emerged from the 40-minute meeting the newest member of Ford Nation. While both Ford and Tyson couldn’t have been happier about their newfound bromance, many Torontonians were none too pleased that their mayor was welcoming a man with Tyson’s rap sheet into City Hall.
Fast-forward to Wednesday’s CP24 interview. When Downer asked Tyson to comment on the negative impact palling around with “a convicted rapist” such as himself could potentially have on Ford’s re-election campaign, Tyson became completely unhinged, calling Downer – amongst other things – a “rat piece of s**t.”
You’ve got to hand it to Downer. Mike Tyson is nothing if not intimidating. Not only was he the heavyweight champion of the world, but this is also the guy who TOOK A BITE OUT OF ANOTHER MAN’S EAR. Yet, even in the (tattooed and mustachioed) face of Tyson’s verbal assault, Downer never lost his cool, repeatedly attempting (albeit in vain) to get the interview back on track.
Alas, it was not to be; the crazy train had gone off the rails. Nevertheless, the incident made for some damn-fine TV. Watch the full bout in all its glory above and let Little Mac know you’ve got a new, surefire plan of attack.
