Before becoming one of the greatest rappers of all time, Nicki Minaj was a struggling waitress in New York trying to make ends meet. Specifically, she was a struggling waitress at Red Lobster who got fired. A lot. Three times to be exact. This week, Minaj returned to the famous seafood chain in a segment with The Tonight Show’s host Jimmy Fallon, marking Fallon’s first time eating at Red Lobster. There’s life before Cheddar Biscuits, and life after.
Taking a pink stretch limo to the restaurant, because of course, Fallon and Minaj enjoyed just about every item from the restaurant’s extensive menu, including the Lobsterita drink. Minaj schooled Jimmy on how to properly open a lobster (kind of), how to eat breaded shrimp, and explained why she was fired from the chain. Apparently it’s frowned upon to chase down customers in the parking lot and demand they return your pen before flipping them off. Good to know.
Minaj and Fallon ended the segment with a redemption skit, where Nicki was given the opportunity to improve her previous performances as a waitress. Looking like the head hostess, Minaj had to contend with trainee Fallon, who stole drinks, biscuits, and chided customers for not eating with their hands. Demanding a pen back suddenly doesn’t seem like such a big deal.
In addition to the pair’s trip to Red Lobster (anyone else feeling really hungry right now?), Fallon and Minaj also played a game of Wheel of Freestyle, allowing Nicki to showcase her skills as a world-class freestyler who thankfully found her calling. Customer service is not where Minaj shines. Incorporating the words hexagon, yeti, and edible arrangement, Minaj dropped a short but fiery track, also as hot as a free basket of cheddar biscuits coming straight out of the oven. Sorry, we’re still kinda hungry.
Minaj’s appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon comes only a few days after dropping her new single “Megatron,” with Fallon asking the rapper whether this meant that a record was on the way. “There’s definitely a new album, yes, of course,” said Minaj, adding “You’re the first to find out.”
Minaj didn’t have many details, joking that she hadn’t titled the album and saying “I don’t have the date yet.” Considering there was a four-year break between 2014’s The Pinkprint and 2018’s Queen, the fact that we already have a single is a good sign that fans won’t have to wait as long for Minaj’s fifth studio album.
