We know what you’re thinking—watermelons have no business being anywhere near BBQ sauce. Food expert Jason Skrobar proves otherwise.

This BBQ sauce is perfect for all grilled meat: ribs, chicken or pork tenderloin.


Watermelon BBQ Sauce

WHAT YOU DO:

  • 1 TBSP vegetable oil
  • 1/2 white onion, coarsely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup watermelon puree
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 ketchup
  • 2 TBSP soy sauce
  • 2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • Salt to taste

WHAT YOU DO:

  1. Heat oil in a medium sized sauce pan. Add onions and cook for about 5 mins or until they begin to break down.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and continue to cook for another 10 mins, stirring constantly.
  3. Transfer to a blender and blend until smooth.
  4. Transfer to a jar and let cool.
