If you are one of the millions of fans who loved Alien and Aliens, this will be the best news ever. And if you are one of the few who actually liked Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, then, well, we’re still the bearer of good news.
It’s been confirmed that the new Alien movie is happening and since there is no such thing as an Alien movie without Ellen Ripley, let us reassure you that Sigourney Weaver is definitely reprising her iconic role. Joining her is Michael Biehn because what’s Ripley without Hicks?
Directors James Cameron, David Fincher or Jean-Pierre Jeunet won’t be behind the camera on this one. South African-Canadian Neill Blomkamp will be helming this project and with his sci-fi background (District 9, Elysium and the upcoming Chappie) we think this is a match made in heaven.
Blomkamp teased us with a series of concept sketches he posted on Instagram of the still-untitled Alien project back in January but now that it’s all coming to fruition, we are bursting with fruit flavour. According to Nerdist, “Blomkamp’s new movie will basically disregard Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection as the director says he’s designing the film to sit in sequence right after Aliens.”
Nerdist also reports that the movie should “give proper closure” to Ripley. And fans. Alien 3 does have its share of diehards out there, but does anyone even remember Resurrection? Or maybe it’s just forever blacked out of our memories. A release date has yet to be set by Fox but we think it’s safe to say this has “summer blockbuster” written all over it. Pumped? Geeking out? Just don’t be scared. Now, who’s with us?
