We’ve been trying to figure out the identity of ‘Becky with the good hair’ ever since Beyonce‘s visual album dropped. Speculation about the lyric has run wild, from celebs like Rita Ora and Taylor Swift, to an unknown ‘Becky’ and now we finally know. One of Bey’s primary song writers just came forward, and to be honest, it’s kind of a let down.
Becky is no one. And everyone. One of Beyonce’s song writers, Diana Gordon revealed in an interview that it was a name they just threw into the song. In fact, Diana had written the entirety of Sorry before Beyonce had heard it, Bey did go on to tweak the song a bit, but Becky came from Diana’s mind. The whole song is actually about an experience that Diana had, which Beyonce felt related to her life. Well now we feel a bit silly about the whole thing.
Diana thought the attention that the lyric was getting was funny, “What day in age from that lyric do you get all of this information? Is it really telling you all that much, accusing people?” We’re sorry Diana, we really just wanted to know who Bey was so upset with.
Apparently Beyonce was amused and surprised by the whole thing as well. The bee hive was searching high and low for a woman to call Becky, just trying to protect their queen bee. Many celebs were even accused of, and denied, being Becky.
We’re sorry Beyonce, next time we won’t call everyone Becky with the good hair.
