We all know when you say ‘Trump’, the word ‘vain’ is not too far behind. Judging by his declarations of being the most popular, successful President in US history, Donald Trump can hardly be described as a humble man unconcerned with his appearance.

Which is why the reason behind his ridiculously long ties really comes as little surprise. According to former New Jersey governor Chris Christie’s new memoir, Let Me Finish, there’s a supposed-method to the tie madness, with the president believing longer ties make him appear thinner. As the former head of Trump’s White House transition team, it’s probably safe to say Christie has few scruples about making Trump seem a little conceited. And according to a preview of the book by The Guardian, Trump apparently advised Christie follow in his fashion footsteps and don some longer ties to create that slimming effect.

Luckily, the unusual length of Trump’s ties has not gone unnoticed by savvy Twitter users –they’ve taken the natural step of creating and contributing to their very own Twitter account, featuring some truly inspired Trump memes:

Oh, Donald. From his much mocked hairstyle, to the revelation that he scotch-tapes his ties (who needs tie clips, right Donald?), he really needs help putting his best fashion foot forward. And to top it all off, his theory’s not even correct – according to men’s style bible, GQ, a man’s tie should sit around the waist, or mid-line. And this is the man who told Christie, “you gotta look better to be able to win.” With that in mind – maybe he’ll do better before 2020.
