Now that most airlines are charging baggage fees, Canadians are adapting like most rational human beings are — by cramming as much as possible into their carry-on to avoid paying anything extra.

We can’t say we blame you, so we thought we’d take it upon ourselves to find the perfect carry-on bag, one that fits the size dimensions mandated by all major Canadian airlines. With the holidays and winter travel just on the horizon, it’s the best time to get prepared.

Here are the carry-on size restrictions, per airline:

Air Canada allows a maximum of one standard article 23 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm, weighing a maximum of 10 kg, and one personal article, 16 cm x 33 cm x 43 cm, weighing a maximum of 10 kg.

Westjet allows a maximum of one standard article 22.8 cm x 38.1 cm x 53.3 cm, and one personal article, 41 cm x 15 cm x 33 cm.

Porter Airlines allows one standard article not exceeding 23 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm, and weighing less than 9 kg. You’re also allowed one personal article not exceeding 16 cm x 33 cm x 44 cm and weighing less than 9 kg.

Air Transat allows one carry-on (depending on where you’re flying), with maximum dimensions of 23 x 40 x 51 cm, and weighing less than 10 kg.

Sunwing carry-on baggage is restricted to one standard article with maximum dimensions of 23 x 40 x 51 cm. The weight cannot exceed 5 kg.

CanJet allows one carry-on not exceeding 23 x 40 x 51 cm, and weighing less than 10 kg.

So, with all of these measurements taken into consideration, here are two ideal carry-ons (one hard case, the other a soft case) that’ll work for whatever Canadian airline you’re planning to take. (Note: the size specs are without luggage wedged inside, so you could very well be oversize by the time you board. That’s on you.)
