Despite their sketchy beginnings, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are undeniably the perfect couple. There’s just something so right about the two of them, from the way they look at each other and talk to one another to the way they parent their kids and find time for family. They truly are a couple we can’t help but admire and perhaps even aspire to be.
The two sat down for a pre-taped interview with Tom Brokaw for Today and the couple tackled a handful of subjects, including their upcoming movie By the Sea (directed by Jolie and their first collaboration since Mr. and Mrs. Smith 10 years ago, when they met), Angie’s kitchen skills (or lack thereof), her health, grief and Angelina’s late mother.
Angelina revealed that her doctor was also her mother’s doctor and one of Marcheline Bertrand‘s dying wishes was that Angelina have her ovaries removed. But it’s how Ange and Brad describe the aftermath of hearing the devastating news that’s most telling about their marriage.
Angelina on Brad: “For as much as he speaks about my strength, he made it very, very clear to me that what he loved and what was a woman to him was somebody that’s smart and capable and cares about her family and it’s not about your physical body. So I knew through the surgeries that he was on my side and that this wasn’t something where I was going to feel like less of a woman because my husband wasn’t going to let that happen.”
Brad on Angelina: “She was doing it for her kids, and she was doing it for her family so we could be together. Which trumped everything. It trumped everything and anything.”
Now this, THIS is a real marriage. They just happen to be two of the most famous people on the planet. But this is how it’s done, people. In sickness and in health, good times and bad, and six kids and counting, Brange proves love conquers all.
