If there’s one thing Pretty Little Liars loves, it’s group texting. If there’s a second thing PLL loves, it’s finding Avatar-quality masks in a small Pennsylvania town.
Tonight’s episode of PLL featured both and for that, we thank them. Now let’s talk about how the introduction of the masked man made as much sense as Aria’s sweater.
Hanna spent most of the episode being annoyingly paranoid over a very dead guy coming back to life, so much so that she and Spencer wore their best grave digging heels to confirm that yes, the maggots have descended upon Archer Dunhill’s chiseled face.
Okay, so it wasn’t Archer calling his own burner phone in a British accent or attacking Alison, but who was it? Let’s start first with the latest Jenna thing.
Jenna and Sara Harvey’s bestie status got rocked tonight by Sara’s insistence on telling Emily that she wants to keep Emily and the other girls safe. From whom? Dunno. Jenna is less than thrilled by Sara’s wavering alliance and that means Sara’s gonna hafta die. For those sports fans keeping track, the score is two dead bodies so far this season.
Before arranging (we assume) Sara’s bubble bath from hell, Jenna let Emily in on her past with Charlotte.
This made no damn sense.
To (try to) recap, Jenna read about Charlotte in the paper, befriended her while Charlotte was locked up, introduced Charlotte to Archer, helped Archer become Elliott and then came back to Rosewood, not when Charlotte was released, not when she died, but when Archer stopped answering his phone. Like, what?
Jenna likely did just have Sara killed, so she’s not *great* at being a friend, but why would Archer’s disappearance be the catalyst to bring her to Rosewood? How does Jenna know Archer? Why was she intent on playing matchmaker for a psych patient? Would Jenna really care about the sister of Alison, the same Alison that blinded Jenna? Literally zero to five per cent of this makes sense.
The only really useful piece of information we learned was that Jenna was helping Charlotte find Mary Drake, her birth mother, which could explain how Archer and Mary Drake found one another with Jenna’s help…ish. It’s all still pretty unclear.
So, if Archer’s dead and Jenna’s legit blind again, who’s the masked man that attacked Alison and likely killed Sara (again, we assume)?
First off, this masked man could be a woman. So, there’s that.
The next most obvious guess is Wren aka the only other major Brit to appear on PLL. He was also a doctor, also shady, and had a thing for dating sisters (let’s not forget he and Melissa were engaged before he played tonsil hockey with Spencer). After Wren, we have Hanna’s ex-fiance Jordan on our list, solely for the reason that we still can’t really place his accent.
Of course, there’s always the chance that the masked man could be an American putting on a British voice, but we can’t forget Madonna in Swept Away, or Kevin Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, or Anne Hathaway in One Day or any other American that has tried and failed to pull off the Queen’s English. So yeah, it’s totally-probably-most likely-very plausibly Wren. Or some dude we’ve never met.
Hopefully next week’s episode will feature flashback reveals that will make some iota of sense. If not, at least we have Ezria.
