We’ll be the first to admit that anything ruched looks, ahem, dated and tacky, but one person who was miraculously able to pull it off was Michelle Williams. The white number she wore to the 2016 TONY Awards was the perfect mix of classy and risque.
Of course many of her other famous friends were showcasing their looks on multiple red carpets this week, but not all hit it out of the ball park like dear Michelle.
Let’s begin.

We’re totally OK with ruching if Michelle Williams is wearing it

Lupita Nyong’o
The Oscar winner attended the 2016 Tony Honors Cocktail Party in Oscar de la Renta and we couldn’t be more pleased. We mean, really, is she a fashion genius or does she have the smartest stylist in the world? No matter what the reason, the result is definite: she has one of the most enviable closets around.

Sarah Jessica Parker
Apparently having made a deal with the devil, SJP showed her ageless face at the Shining City opening night wearing Temperley London. Meanwhile, we’ve been having some serious Sex and the City nostalgia these days. All we want to do is rewatch it endlessly.

Kate Middleton
The sleek royal wore Roland Mouret to the SportsAid 40th Anniversary dinner. It was all very understated and glam, with the exception of her earrings, which are a big more in-your-face than the rest of the look. (And that’s ok too.)

Naomie Harris
The Bond star’s Zuhair Murad dress was, hands down, our favorite look of the week. She wore it to the Duke of Edinburgh Award 60th Anniversary Diamonds are Forever Gala in England and we are in love with the butterflies scattered all over the gown. Delightful.

Michelle Williams
We’ve loved Michelle since her Dawson’s Creek days. This Louis Vuitton gown, which she wore to the Tony’s, is deceptively simple. But the closer you look, the more intriguing it is. Also? We love her hair.
Style WinnerGetty Images![Katy Perry]()
Katy Perry
This is what Katy wore to the Moschino Spring/Summer17 Menswear and Women's Resort Collection show in L.A. It overwhelms us and bores us at the same time. That can’t be good.

Mindy Kaling
While we, honestly, have grown a bit weary with her show (it started off so well! Why did it go off the rails?), we still enjoy Mindy and her vibrant wardrobe. Nice Dolce & Gabbana, Mindy.

Sienna Miller
She’s one of our favourite style stars and Sienna’s dress at the The Cartier Queen's Cup Final made us ever so happy. The Dolce & Gabbana dress is so summery and gorgeous – that print! Wow! Plus, her hair and lipstick are perfect. Seriously. So perfect.
Style WinnerGetty Images![Jennifer Lopez]()
Jennifer Lopez
Much like SJP, Jennifer appears to have made some sort of otherworldly deal in order to maintain her youthful beauty. How does she look BETTER than she did 20 years ago? How!? Anyway, envy aside, we do enjoy her Elie Saab outfit and the little top bun.

Carrie Underwood & Mike Fisher
Carrie is pretty in a soft and fluttery Mikael D dress (lipstick is too pink though) at the CMT Awards. Meanwhile, husband Mike Fisher looks like he’s attending sports night on behalf of his high school hockey team. (That’s not good).

Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban
One of country’s hottest couples showed up at the CMT Awards looking mostly good. We’re totally fine with Keith’s ruffled musician look, complete with a Levi’s jacket. But, Nicole’s Michael Kors collection starts off right (simple lines, nice sparkling details) but kind of goes astray with the long necktie/choker thingy which we totally do not like.
Style Winners (ish)Getty Images![Cate Blanchett]()
Cate Blanchett
Three cheers for Cate’s Louis Vuitton dress she wore to the Tony’s this year. If you can’t wear something this dramatic to the Tony’s, WHEN CAN YOU WEAR IT? Answer: never. So good thing she wore it to the Tony’s because it’s bea-u-ti-ful.
Style WinnerGetty Images![Saoirse Ronan]()
Saoirse Ronan
Saoirse, who stars in Broadway’s The Crucible and was up for an Oscar for her work in Brooklyn, hit the Tony’s in a slinky and elegant Stella McCartney design. And the world was better for it.
Style WinnerGetty Images![Keri Russell]()
Keri Russell
Keri gets bonus points for her Monique Lhuillier dress specifically because it’s so unusual. The colour and the buttons down the front – we adore.
