Christmas and commercialism go hand in hand, but is that necessarily a bad thing? Okay, okay, we’re not saying to forget the true meaning of Christmas, but isn’t it ironic that the best holiday ads are the ones that remind us that Christmas isn’t just all about buying stuff? Leave it to H&M to remind us of that, the Wes Anderson way.
The film is set on a train (the most romantic form of travel, of course) while the staff attempts to make Christmas as magical as possible for passengers, despite an 11.5 hour delay. Naturally, this involves their fearless conductor Ralph (played by Adrian Brody) having to acquire makeshift holiday decor from another train passing by on parallel tracks.
The passengers are all stylishly decked out in H&M (hey, this is a fashion ad after all), but look relatively glum in their quaint sleeping cars. But of course, this isn’t Christmas without that feel-good ending, and there’s one star of the film who reminds everyone what Christmas is all about. But why spoil the surprise?
