Whatever Chris Rock is planning for his upcoming Oscars hosting gig this weekend, we’re thinking that it’s going to be out of this world. How could we not, thanks to some photos the comedian posted on Twitter Monday evening showing his thorough and utterly confusing preparation?

You see, ever since the Smiths decided to boycott the Oscars and the #OscarsSoWhite campaign surfaced, we’ve all been wondering how the host would repurpose his gig in order to address the issue and at least attempt to include some sort of diversity within the star-studded show. What we didn’t expect was this.

Perhaps this is Rock’s ode to The Martian, which is among the films nominated for Best Picture? Or maybe he’s doing some sort of a weird Star Wars, The Martian mashup? That would make sense, given the other tweet he sent out with J.J. Abrams, Kristin Wiig (who was in the Matt Damon film) and what appears to be a green screen.

Of course opening montages featuring bits from all the films nominated or that have made a splash throughout the years isn’t exactly new territory for an Oscars host. It’s a nice way to add a creative flair while paying homage to the movies that captured viewers hearts. Although if we’re being totally honest, we would have loved to have seen Rock pull a Jonah Hill and don a bear costume. Because The Revenant, and all.

Technically, we guess there’s still time.

The Oscars air Sunday, Feb. 28 on CTV.
