This week’s list of recommendations is for the music-lover, featuring a star-studded Crave Original music doc, a coming-of-age story powered by the tunes of Bruce Springsteen and a classic Tim Burton comedy fantasy.Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The BandPremiering on Crave April 3, Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band, is the part confessional, part cautionary tale, all Crave Original documentary on Canadian music legend Robbie Robertson and the influential '70s rock-folk group he helped lead to massive success. Mixing archival footage and new sit-down interviews from the group’s close friends and colleagues, this doc is star-studded and you can expect talking heads from Martin Scorsese, Marilyn Monroe, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and of course, Robbie Robertson himself. On top of that, Scorsese also serves as executive producer of the film alongside Ron Howard and Bell Media president Randy Lennox. Definitely a treat for '70s music enthusiasts, Once Were Brothers has been highly anticipated since its premiere at opening night at TIFF 2019. The film tells the story of Javed Khan (Ronak Chadha Berges), an immigrant from Pakistan, who's into poetry and contemporary rock that his father disapproves of. Feeling depressed and out of place, Javed begins to find his voice through the music of Bruce Springsteen. The film is inspired by the life of journalist and Springsteen superfan Sarfraz Manzoor and is based off his memoir Greetings from Bury Park: Race, Religion and Rock N’ Roll. Hidden Gem: BeetlejuiceAs we continue to quarantine in an effort to flatten the COVID-19 curve, TIFF and Crave have partnered to bring Canadians Stay-at-Home Cinema. An experience attempting to bring the magic of going to the movies together to our home screens. TIFF has curated a list of select Crave titles and have accompanied them with special guests via Instagram. An interactive experience allows viewers to ask questions and share their thoughts in a virtual Q&A on Instagram via @tiff_net before watching the selected film. Joining the feed on Friday, April 3rd at 7pm is Catherine O'Hara to discuss her first collabor with director Tim Burton, Beetlejuice. The film, of course, is a critically-acclaimed comedy fantasy about a deceased couple who hire a malicious spirit to scare the family that moved into their old house away.
