The latest superhero franchise to receive the reboot treatment hits theatres this weekend with the release of Fantastic Four.
We’re getting a little bit worn out by the seemingly endless parade of superheroes so of course we started thinking about clothes (just us?), which got us to thinking: Of all the actors and actresses that have suited up to portray our beloved superheroes through several big screen reboots, who actually wore the outfits best? Who really nailed it?
After much mulling, we have the (totally opinionated) answers.
Who wore it better? The movie superhero edition
Spider-Man: Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield?Tobey Maguire nailed the classic Spider-Man look as well as the geeky, nice boy persona as the iconic web-slinger. Andrew Garfield tried to bring an edgier image to the role, but just came across looking like Eduardo from The Social Network threw on a Halloween costume.
Winner: Tobey MaguireColumbia Pictures
Superman: Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh or Henry Cavill? Both Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill did a great job looking the part of Superman. But they can never hold a candle to Christopher Reeve. He literally looked like the comic book came to life.
Winner: Christopher Reeve Warner Bros.
Mystique: Rebecca Romijn or Jennifer Lawrence?Let's be honest, this is really tough. Both RR and J-Law looked awesomely identical as popular X-Men baddie Mystique. And they were both bad-ass in the role. To break the tie, we have to turn to acting skills, and J-Law owned it.
Winner: Jennifer Lawrence 20th Century Fox
Catwoman: Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry or Anne Hathaway?Halle Berry looked ridiculous in her barely existing Catwoman outfit. Anne Hathaway was too pretty, prim and proper looking in the role. Michelle Pfeiffer was perfect, balancing scary, unstable and sexy to a tee.
Winner: Michelle PfeifferWarner Bros.
The Joker: Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger or Jared Leto?We definitely wouldn't want to run into any of these three gentlemen in real life. But when it comes to who wore The Joker best, the tasseled, menacing Heath Ledger wins. Jack Nicholson's outfit looked a little too clean and fun-loving. Jared Leto looks like Marilyn Manson.
Winner: Heath Ledger Warner Bros.
The Invisible Woman: Jessica Alba or Kate Mara?As Fantastic Four member The Invisible Woman, Jessica Alba looked like she jumped right out of the comics. Kate Mara's new take on the part looks more like she's getting ready for a scuba diving mission. Although we appreciate Mara's edgier, modern look, Alba owned it.
Winner: Jessica Alba 20th Century Fox
The Human Torch: Chris Evans or Michael B. Jordan?Chris Evans looked way too cheesy as the Human Torch. He came across as insufferably conceited and looked more like a surfer dude in a wetsuit. The new Human Torch, Michael B. Jordan, has an edgier, modern swagger. He looks way cooler and more believable in the outfit.
Winner: Michael B. Jordan 20th Century Fox
The Thing: Michael Chiklis or Jamie Bell?Another Fantastic Four showdown. But this one's easy. Jamie Bell's new take on The Thing appears to be actual living, breathing, clobbering rock. Michael Chiklis looked like he was covered in play-dough.
Winner: Jamie Bell 20th Century Fox
Batman: Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale or Ben Affleck?Ah yes. The most rebooted superhero of all time, Batman. And as menacing as each of these actors looked in the role of The Dark Knight, only one man was tough enough to wear a grey leotard with a plastic blue speedo. And that man most definitely wore it best.
Winner: Adam West (...duh!) Warner Bros.
