Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp were together for over five years, on and off, but their surprise split in 2015 actually wasn’t that surprising to the only two that matter here. Turns out, Mellencamp was a bit of a boob and Ryan realized she no longer needed that boob-ness in her life. So she cut and run. Funnily enough, though, John has nothing but lovely things to say about Meg — with the exception of his recollections of her feelings towards him.
“Oh, women hate me. I loved Meg Ryan,” Mellencamp said during an interview with SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, when asked if they keep in touch. “She hates me to death.”
Well that’s … harsh. Mellencamp even admitted he tried to reconnect with Ryan but she wasn’t interested.
“She just doesn’t want anything to do with me. And I can’t blame her.”
Mellencamp wasn’t shy about his issues and why Ryan would “hate” the singer so much. “I think it’s because I’m a child. I throw fits, I gripe, I complain. I’m moody. Every bad thing that a fella can be, that’s me.”
Aw, that’s not a nice thing to say about one’s self. Don’t get us wrong, it sounds like John is a bit of a nightmare to live with and there’s probably only so much a woman could take but we can’t help but feel bad for him too.
Mellencamp later clarified that women only hate him when they’re in a relationship. He maintains good relationships with ex-wife Elaine Irwin and ex-girlfriend Christie Brinkley, whom he dated after he and Meg split.
But it kind of sounds like Mellencamp’s still a little hung up on Ryan, like if she said she would take him back, he’d come running. Though based on John’s words, that’s never going to happen. Oh, well. Life goes on.
