Simple life fact: It’s impossible to not swoon over the guys in your favourite band. Even if you ignore their good looks, cool style, and natural talent, there are still so many reasons to want to make a musician your boyfriend.
1. They’ll write you love songs
Whether you like it or not, your love life will probably end up as lyrics. He may never write you anything that compares to John Legend’s tribute to his wife Chrissy Teigan, but if you’re lucky, he’ll come close.
2. Free music lessons
Even if you’ve never wanted to learn how to play the drums, you’re bound to pick up a few things from him. Keira Knightly’s husband James Righton (of Klaxons fame) taught her how to play guitar in preparation for a role. She jokingly said it almost destroyed their relationship, but we’re sure she wasn’t that bad.
3. You get to go on tour without having to work
We’ll admit it, touring is not exactly glamorous (picture several sweaty men trapped in a bus or van for weeks straight) but that doesn’t mean it can’t still be fun. Especially if you just pick their best stops to fly into and piggy back on their hotel rooms. If you ever wanted to throw a TV out of a window, this is definitely your chance.
4. Parlay their success into your own career
We would never encourage anyone to date someone just for his notoriety, but if it happens to work in your favor then you might as well go with it! Supermodel Karen Elson added singer/songwriter to her resume while married to White Stripes rocker Jack White when he encouraged her to record and release her first album on his own record label. It pays to hitch your wagon to a one of rock’s biggest names.
5. Your kids are the best
Kids of rock stars are the coolest, no question. You can rest assured knowing that your offspring will always be the envy of their friends. Blue Ivy will always be cooler than Suri, and yes, even the Stefani-Rossdale brood is cooler than the Jolie-Pitt’s. It’s just a fact.
6. They can improve your fashion sense
Anyone who thinks Kim had better style before Kanye is just plain wrong. Musicians tend to be creative perfectionists, and that extends to their style. Even if it’s not necessarily your thing, you will be so impressed by their conviction that you’ll play along.
7. Girl time
There’s nothing wrong with wanting, or even needing to spend some time away from your boyfriend. Why not do as Nicole Ritchie does (as if we needed any convincing on that) and carve out some quality time with your BFFs while your BF is zig-zagging across North America. Joel Madden doesn’t mind, and neither will your guy.
8. You seem way cooler than before
It’s kind of like that fluke day when you were picked first for gym class and suddenly people started noticing you. Once you attach yourself to someone so effortlessly cool and enviable as a musician, you instantly become more interesting. Just ask Jessica Biel. You think she would ever have been sat next to Beyonce before she attached herself to Justin Timberlake? We think not.
