As the age-old saying goes, kids can be cruel. But what do you do when your kid is cruel to themselves?

A mother turned to Mumsnet for advice when her six-year-old daughter expressed that she wanted to shave her dark leg hair. The girl told her mom that although she was never bullied about it, she feels self-conscious to the point where she doesn’t want to go to swimming lessons or show her legs at school.

“A big part of me knows that this is ridiculous but there’s another part of me that wants [daughter] to make her own choices,” the mom writes.

The mother received tons of support from commenters who shared their horror stories of their childhood with long body hair and how they wish they could’ve been rid of it.

The mom said she has spoken with her daughter about different body-types, self-love and acceptance, but is seriously considering letting her shave since she doesn’t want to cause her daughter any more stress.

How young is too young to shave your legs?
