It’s not often we’re floored by a mascara Before and After, so when this photo from Reddit user EllieDaisyLouise started making the internet rounds, we were shook. That length. That volume. That curl–all from a $5 tube of Essence’s Lash Princess False Lash Mascara.

Can’t believe this mascara was only £3.30! Sorry for the shocking picture quality but this is the Essence Lash Princess mascara and I HIGHLY recommend it. from MakeupAddiction

Naturally, we were curious – as were all our other favourite beauty outlets like Glamour, Popsugar and Allure. Could this little tube of drugstore mascara live up to all its claims? Glamour‘s senior digital beauty editor, Lindsay Schallon seemed to think so.

Kid you not, this is the result of a $5 mascara. Story coming soon on @glamourmagbeauty! ✨

Other Redditors were on team Lash Princess too.

Can now confirm that the Essence Lash Princess mascara that was posted about a day ago is in fact amazing(so thank you to elliedaisylouis). I bought it, tried it, and highly approve of it. Well worth the 4 dollars! from MakeupAddiction

But (there’s always a but) some users were quick to point out that the mascara doesn’t do much unless your lashes are fairly long already. Others weren’t too fond of the clumps. That said, if you’re curious and still looking for your dream mascara, it might just be worth the $5 to find out if this is The One.
