The beauty world is currently obsessed with jelly-textured products, from cleansers to face masks, blushes or highlighters. It’s a trend that comes from K-beauty and the products are all about playfulness and adding a little bit of fun into your beauty routine. They’re as hydrating, nourishing and pigmented as your go-to products, but beauty isn’t just about high-performing and problem-solving products; it’s also about providing you with a great sensorial experience.
To give us the low-down on some of her favourite jelly skincare and makeup, founder of 100 ML and beauty expert Mishal Cazmi stopped by The Social with some products that you definitely need to check out. Why you should include jelly in your makeup routine
Shiseido waso jelly lotion essenceThis is an essence (or softening lotion as Shiseido calls it) that transforms from a jelly into a lotion as soon as comes into contact with your skin. Alcohol-free and great for all skin types, one of the key ingredients is white mushroom jelly extract, which is like a sponge that holds onto water and bounces back into its pumped-up state when soaked.
You apply it post-cleansing, with either a cotton pad or with your fingers, following up with your moisturizer. The result? Hydrated and refreshed skin!
Sephora | $40
Skinfix barrier+ lipid-hyaluronate serumThis cream-jelly serum is loaded with antioxidants and hydrating oils like squalene, jojoba and macadamia oils. There’s also peony root complex, which helps boost radiance. It’s great for all skin types, but especially targets dehydrated skin.
Skinfix | $67
Uriage eau thermale water jellyOne of the key ingredients in this jelly moisturizer from the French skincare brand Uriage is thermal water. It’s sourced from the French Alps, which is soothing, moisturizing and rich with minerals. It’s like a face mist in moisturizer form, with the jelly texture designed to go deeper into the skin more quickly. The light jelly texture transforms into a shot of cool water, giving you deep and instant moisture sans greasiness. It’s recommended for normal to combination skin types.
Beauty Expert | $29
NYX bare with me hydrating jelly primerThis jelly primer hydrates the skin and minimizes the appearance of pores. It’s a water-based formula, which creates a smooth and even base for your makeup.
Another cool tidbit: the amazing jelly texture bounces back into place no matter how much you scoop out!
NYX | $22
Rimmel London Jelly HighlighterThis playful take on highlighters comes in different shades like golden champagne shade and iridescent pink. You can easily apply using your fingers, and it melts into the skin and creates that dewy glow inspired by the glass skin trend from K-beauty.
Shopper’s Drug Mart | $9
VDL creamy stick jelly blushThis is a creamy stick jelly, but it doesn’t have a Jello-like texture like the others because it comes in the form of a solid stick. It’s great if you’re nervous about using a more adventurous texture.
It comes in six different shades that are really meant to help mimic your natural flush. VDL is a popular K-beauty brand from South Korea that was launched in Canada this year.
Nature Collection | $27
Kaja moon crystal sparkling eve pigmentThese pigmented eyeshadows are from a Korean beauty brand called Kaja. Unlike your usual powder or liquid formulas, they have a jelly texture that dries into a powder and sets instantly!
The eyeshadows are all about pearlescent colours that help reflect light from every angle, and they use real crystal powder to help create that shine and shimmer.
Sephora | $22
LUSH cosmetics conga shower jelly and twilight shower jellyThese shower jellies from LUSH get their jelly-like consistency from carrageenan, which comes from seaweed. It’s packed with minerals so your skin will be soft after you shower. They’re just like soap–except with an extra wobble!
The hot temperature of your shower combined with the cool sensation of the jellies are said to help improve blood circulation. You can even choose from two jellies: the Conga Shower Jelly uses fresh raspberry juice and soothing almond milk, while the Twilight Shower Jelly is infused with lavender flower and oil.
LUSH | $9
