If you’re one of the most popular people on the planet and you have adorable children that you want to grow up as normal as possible, what do you do? Well, if you’re Kate Middleton and your kids are of royal heritage, you simply pretend that that heritage doesn’t exist. At least for now.
According to some unnamed sources Kate has decided that George and Charlotte are going to have as normal an upbringing as possible, and that actually means that the tots have no idea that they’re a part of the royal family. Sure, they know who their family is, per se, but not the worldwide impact that their blood relatives tend to have.
Obviously that line of thinking doesn’t sit well with everyone in the royal family, who perhaps feel slighted that Kate isn’t following the same line of thinking that Charles and Diana did with Will and Harry. For example George is attending a co-ed, middle-class school with other children rather than the private prep school down the street that William went to.
“It would absolutely horrify Elizabeth. But Kate insists the kids should be allowed to be normal children. Never in royal history have the children in direct line to the throne been raised in such a modern way,” a source tells Radar.
Apparently Kate’s way of raising kids to be normal includes rolling around in the mud, being told to take time outs when they get rambunctious or threatening to take them home when they’re misbehaving. Okay so maybe Kate’s way of thinking lines up with almost every other parent’s point-of-view?
Regardless, we’re sure that royal watchers are just trying to find things to nitpick at this point. At the end of the day it’s probably a good thing to remember that these are Kate and William’s kids first, and they have a responsibility to do what’s right for them.
Besides, it’s not like George and Charlotte are never going to know just how famous they are. Aside from having access to all of the best toys, vacations, schools and who knows what else, they’re eventually going to clue in to the fact that everyone wants to take their pictures everywhere they go.
Mind you, these days with all the smart phones out there, that’s kind of a normal part of childhood too.
So there you have it. George and Charlotte: they’re just like every other normal kid out there. Except you know, when they’re not.
