It sucks watching something get taken away by airport security. Yeah, yeah, we get it, they have a job to do and we should know the rules, but still. Seeing your Costco-sized bottle of sunscreen, your full jar of hair gel or your shiny brass knuckles get dumped into a giant plastic bin can have you crying into the $7 bottle of water you inevitably buy near your gate.
A Chinese woman trying to make a connecting flight from Beijing to Wenzhou had that very thing happen to her. But instead of handing over her precious imported bottle of cognac, she came up with what she thought, at the time, was a better, much more spirited solution: knock it back.
Because, hello? It was a bottle of Rémy Martin XO Excellence, valued at almost $250 CDN, so helllllll no, she wasn’t going to give that up without a fight.
Of course, she had to know she was taking a risk, since the bottle contained more than 100 ml. But we suppose she thought it was a risk worth taking. So instead of giving it up, she found a corner and drank the entire bottle like a hungry baby for her mother’s milk.
She clearly didn’t think it through enough, because girlfriend reacted to the quickly-consumed alcohol like anyone would and according to the Beijing Times, “Was so drunk … she couldn’t even stand up herself.” She wasn’t allowed passage on her scheduled flight due to her drunkenness, because adoy.
So the little traveller that could not only wasted her expensive cognac (because there was no way she could’ve enjoyed it) but she also missed her flight. But good on her for trying (and not dying from severe alcohol poisoning).
