It’s always a little strange and surreal seeing pictures of your parents when they were young. After all, you never got to see them that way. You only get to know them as adults, so it’s hard to imagine what they were like when they were teenagers. Or even kids. How did the woman who sent you to your room countless times as a child react when she herself was sent to her room countless times as a child? It’s a little bit Inception-y.
Artist Danielle Delph went as far as to insert herself digitally into her mom’s old pictures and collected the images on a blog called Danielle and Janis. If the rest of us attempted such a photo editing feat it’d be done in 5 minutes and look terrible, but Danielle’s is lifelike and incredible and — at times — hauntingly real.
This vintage black and white photo is so well done that it’s hard to even tell which one is Danielle here.
These two could be sisters.
Who can remember going with their mom to the school dance that one time? I sure don’t. Seems like a great idea though. Right Mom?
The reason Danielle started the project was, according to her: “I’ve always wondered if my mom and I would have been friends had we grown up together.” It’s pretty easy to see here, thanks to the miracle of Photoshop, that they would be. Click on over to Danielle and Janis for the rest.
