How do you decorate your home? Fancy throw pillows? Art prints? Wallpaper? Are you part of the ‘furniture is art’ crowd? Maybe a good rug and curtains are all you need. Well, however you choose to decorate your home, we can guarantee it’s not as literarily wonderful as Pippa Branham’s stairs. They’re such a beautiful work of art, we would hesitate to step on them. Our feet are not worthy!

Pippa Branham

When Pippa and her husband moved into their house, Pippa was ready to make her mark on their new ‘forever home’ and do something ‘bold and creative.’ The stairs seemed like as good a place as any to start when the price to carpet them looked like it was going to be pretty steep (pardon the pun). With little painting experience, a love of crafting and some calligraphy know-how, Pippa set off to recreate a Pinterest bookshelf staircase she had seen. And may we just say, she did a killer job.

The 13 books showcased on  the steps are the couple’s favourites. We’re pretty impressed that they had the self-discipline to pick just 13, though it seems like it was a tough process. (FYI: the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett and Weaveworld by Clive Barker were close runners-up).

Look at that detail on Alice. The calligraphy practice probably came in handy for that filigree.

We would love to have a full room painted like that sky on Across the Sea of Stars.

We can’t decide which we like more: the foliage on Wuthering Heights or the waves on Moby Dick.

The stairs took a few weeks to complete (because, you know, life), but the results were SO worth it. Not only does the family now have some crazy new decor (this is probably the definition of a ‘talking piece’), Pippa’s staircase also became an overnight Reddit sensation. Turns out her husband had posted a series of pictures from the project and the internet fell. In. Love.

This may be the project that got the internet’s attention, but it’s actually Pippa’s second painting endeavour at the house. A few months ago, she tackled the ceiling of her ‘Zen Den/Panic-Room’ in the cupboard under the stairs (yes, like in Harry Potter but waaay nicer). Honestly, we love it just as much. Do you think she would consider doing this commercially?

More plans for stellar original home decor? Definitely! Though no word yet on future project ideas. Pippa says, ‘I’m sure they will be just as fun though and, as ever, completed on a tight budget!’ We can’t wait to see.
